Master Building Program

The Iberville Library Board of Control has developed a long-range master building program to update all eight library locations. The library system has not embarked on a significant update to its buildings since their original construction between 1978 and 1982. After 40 plus years of patron visits, craft programs, and community meetings, our buildings are well-used and in need of renovation – and in some cases expansion.

We listened at the 2024 community meetings. We heard your feedback at library visits and through contact emails. We’ve made it our goal to renovate all locations over the next 5 to 7 years to meet community needs and provide a modern space where patrons can learn, study, and connect. Our plan is to offer more collaborative space and comfortable areas for quiet study and group work.

Building Program Timeline

  • Summer – Fall 2025
    • Renovate Bayou Pigeon, Bayou Sorrel, Grosse Tete, Maringouin, & Rosedale Branches
    • Replace aging carpets, refresh paint, update furniture
    • Rearrange layouts to provide space for study or collaboration. At our smallest locations, utilize movable furniture to provide space that better accommodates programs and events.
  • Spring 2026 and Beyond
    • East Iberville Branch – Expansion to better accommodate patron usage and program attendance by enlarging meeting room, adding study rooms and maker space, and realizing more space for the collection.
    • White Castle Branch – Expansion to better accommodate program attendance by increasing the meeting room size and offering quiet space by adding 1 – 2 study rooms.
    • Plaquemine Branch – Reconfiguration of existing branch to realize space for additional study rooms, add a maker space, updated children’s area, dedicated teen space, and expanded reference area to include genealogy and career services.
  • Mobile Library – Iberville Parish Library is currently researching the addition of a Mobile Library – traditionally known as a bookmobile – to expand its current outreach service to parish daycares, nursing homes, community organizations, and parish events.
